What better to help you decide on having a sea wedding than first hand experience! Read on...
My husband and I got married on 08/08/08!!!! What a lucky day!
We got married on the Oriana which is a beautiful P&O cruise ship. We actually booked our holiday and then decided to get married and with just one phone call to check availability of weddings on our cruise itinerary and our wedding was arranged! How lucky we were to get that date, hopefully no excuse to ever forget our anniversary!
The whole things was completely relaxed - all we had to do was decide on the day and time and then advise the normal things you need to think about i.e choice of wedding vows, flowers, cake, music, guests (if any) etc. But, it was so easy - we were provided with a complete check-list to go through, which ensured nothing was forgotten. We sent it off and that was the last thing we needed to do until the time of our cruise, except buying the wedding dress of course! We were lucky enough to have family travel with us as well which made the day even more special. You can even pre-book the important things like hair and make-up trials, manicure and pedicures before you go so you have no need to worry about those 'girl' things.
Once on the ship you will be contacted by your wedding co-ordinator who will run through everything with you. Help is at hand with everything from pressing your dress, finalising flower arrangements, choice of music during and after the ceremony and requirements for your reception after the ceremony, everything will be taken care of for you. A ship photographer will also discuss your photograph requirements with you prior to your wedding and then the day or two after they will go through the photographs with you and you can choose from the many options of packages. We had some beautiful photos taken; they were so unusual with the beautiful blue skies and the ocean behind you. We have had so many comments on how good our wedding album is; we have looked at it so many times and hopefully will do for years to come!
On the actual wedding day, depending if it is just the two of you or if you have friends or family with you, you can decide where you want to be escorted form, in my case my father escorted me with the wedding co-ordinator from my cabin to the Captain's Lounge where I met my husband to be for a really lovely ceremony. Afterwards we had a champagne reception with canapes at 'Tiffany's Lounge' and then moved on to the 'Gary Rhodes Restaurant' for the wedding breakfast.
The whole day was perfect and definitely recommended for a relaxing, stress free wedding!
